As of August 2025, you can finally take the metro to Kolkata airport - no more relying purely on taxis and buses for that leg.
The new Yellow Line
The Yellow Line extension from Noapara to Jai Hind station opened on 22 August 2025, covering 6.77 km. Jai Hind is reportedly the largest underground metro station in India, so it's a genuine landmark stop, not just a functional terminus.
It's not literally inside the airport
Jai Hind station sits about 1.2 km from the terminal building, not attached to it. From the Noapara-bound platform, follow signage to Gate No. 5 for Terminal 1 & 2 access. Budget a short walk, or a quick shuttle/auto for the last stretch if you're carrying heavy luggage.

These are short-hop fares near the airport end of the line; a cross-city trip from further away (say, Howrah) will cost more - check the fare chart at your specific origin station since it scales with distance.
More airport metro access is coming
A second route, the Orange Line (Line 6), running New Garia to the airport via Salt Lake and New Town, will eventually also connect into Jai Hind as an interchange - but as of now only a short Kavi Subhash-Beleghata stretch of that line is operational, so it isn't a usable airport route yet.
Bottom line
If you're flying out of Kolkata, the Yellow Line to Jai Hind is now genuinely the easiest way in - cheap, fast, and skips traffic. Just plan for the short walk (or a quick shuttle) from the station to the terminal, and don't count on the Orange Line for airport access yet.
