Ahmedabad's metro network has grown to four lines, and if this is your first ride, the interchange geography is the one thing worth understanding before you tap in.
The network at a glance
- Blue Line: Thaltej Gam – Vastral Gam
- Red Line: APMC – Motera Stadium
- Yellow Line: Motera Stadium – Mahatma Mandir, Gandhinagar
- Violet spur: GNLU – GIFT City Old High Court is the main interchange between the Blue and Red lines — this is the station you'll pass through if you're crossing the city rather than just riding one line end to end. GNLU is where the Red Line connects to the Violet spur heading into GIFT City, which matters if you're commuting into Gandhinagar's financial district.
Before you go
Grab the smart card or set up the app (see our smart card guide) so you're not fumbling at a counter during a rush. If you're heading to GIFT City or Gandhinagar, double-check you're on the right line — it's a spur, not a straight continuation, so it's easy to end up one interchange short if you're not paying attention.
Operating hours and frequency
Service generally runs from around 6:20 AM to 10:05 PM, with trains every 5–7 minutes at peak and 8–12 minutes off-peak, including Sundays and holidays — worth double-checking on the app if you're planning an early or late trip, since exact timing can vary by line.
Accessibility
Elevators, ramps, and support staff are available at every station, so if you're travelling with someone who needs assistance, or with a stroller or heavy luggage, you're covered system-wide.
Bottom line
Know your interchange (Old High Court for Blue↔Red, GNLU for Red↔Violet), get a smart card before you're in a hurry, and you'll find Ahmedabad Metro straightforward from your very first ride.
