Kochi1 Card: How to Buy, Recharge & Save on Kochi Metro

The Kochi1 Card isn't just a metro card — it's a single wallet that also works on Kochi Water Metro and private buses across the city, and it was India's first open-loop, EMV-contactless transit card when it launched. If you're spending more than a day or two in Kochi, this is the card to get.

What it costs

Item Charge
Issuance fee ₹150
Mandatory first top-up ₹200
Total to get started ₹350
Reload fee (per recharge) ₹12
Lost card replacement ₹150
Card validity 3 years
Every tap gets you 20% off the standard fare, and it stacks with pass products if you're commuting regularly.

Passes worth knowing about

  • Monthly pass: 25% off
  • 60-day pass: 33% off
  • Weekday Pass: ₹125
  • Weekend Pass: ₹230 If you're in Kochi for a work stint rather than a short visit, the monthly or 60-day pass beats paying per-trip even with the card discount.

Where to buy and recharge

Dedicated Kochi1 counters sit at every metro station, or you can apply through Axis Bank online. For recharging, you've got station counters, the Kochi1 app (debit/credit card, net banking, or UPI), or online banking. Reload limits run up to ₹5,000/month on minimum-KYC and up to ₹1,00,000/month once you've completed full KYC.

The part most cards don't do: Water Metro and buses

The same card and the same 20% discount logic carries over to Kochi Water Metro and select private buses — one wallet across three modes of transport. If your trip involves hopping between the metro and a water metro ferry, you don't need a second card or a separate ticket system, which is genuinely unusual for an Indian transit card.

Bottom line

If you're staying more than a day, the ₹350 to get a Kochi1 Card pays for itself fast — 20% off every ride, one card across rail, water, and bus, and it doubles as a general RuPay wallet for retail if you want to use it that way too.
