Delhi traffic to the airport is a gamble. The Airport Express Line (Orange Line) is not - roughly 20 minutes from New Delhi Railway Station to Terminal 3, at speeds up to 120 km/h, making it India's fastest metro line. If you have a flight from T3, this is almost always the smartest move.
The route
New Delhi → Shivaji Stadium → Dhaula Kuan → Delhi Aerocity → IGI Airport T3 → Dwarka Sector 21 → Yashobhoomi Dwarka Sector 25. That's it - limited stops, which is why it's fast.
Note: this line serves Terminal 3 directly. For Terminal 1, get off at Delhi Aerocity and take the shuttle, or use the Magenta Line's Terminal 1-IGI Airport station instead.
Fares
The Airport Express runs on its own fare table, separate from the rest of the network. After the August 2025 fare revision, fares range from about ₹11 up to ₹75 depending on distance. New Delhi to IGI Airport T3 costs around ₹65 (it was ₹60 before the revision - check the DMRC app for the exact current figure).

- Trip passes exist for frequent flyers and Aerocity commuters - 30-trip and 45-trip passes bring the per-ride cost down significantly
- The regular Tourist Card does NOT cover this line

Catching a red-eye or landing late? The 4:45 AM first train covers most early departures, but for a 5:30 AM flight you'll still need a cab. Confirm the day's exact timings on the DMRC Momentum 2.0 app before relying on the first or last service.
Luggage rules - more generous here
The Airport Express Line is built for people with suitcases, so the luggage allowance is more relaxed than on regular lines (where you're capped at 25 kg). Standard airline-sized check-in bags are fine, and there's proper space for them on board. Just don't show up with a mattress.
Check-in at the metro station
Here's the underrated perk: select airlines offer city check-in counters at New Delhi and Shivaji Stadium stations, where you can drop your bags and collect a boarding pass before even reaching the airport, then walk into T3 hands-free. Availability depends on your airline and changes over time, so verify with your airline before counting on it.

- Trains and platforms are noticeably less crowded than the rest of the network
- Coaches have luggage racks and flight information displays
- Give yourself buffer anyway: security screening at the metro entry takes a few minutes when there's a queue
