Kolkata Metro

Kolkata Metro is India's first rapid transit system, inaugurated on 24 October 1984 with the North-South (Blue) Line. As of mid-2026 it has five operational colour-coded lines (Blue, Green/East-West, Purple, Orange, Yellow) totalling roughly 73.4 km, run jointly by Metro Railway Kolkata (Indian Railways) on the broad-gauge Blue/Purple/Orange/Yellow corridors and Kolkata Metro Rail Corporation (KMRC) on the standard-gauge Green (East-West) corridor. Further extensions on the Orange and Purple lines are targeted for late 2026.
