Vijayawada Metro

Vijayawada Metro is a proposed Light Rail/Metro system whose Phase-1 Detailed Project Report (two corridors, ~38.4 km, 34 stations) was approved by the Andhra Pradesh state cabinet in December 2024, with land acquisition orders issued in January 2025 and civil-construction tenders (~Rs 4,150 crore) floated in July 2025. However, as of mid-2026 the project has not broken ground: multiple news reports describe it as being 'at a crossroads' amid unresolved Central Government funding sanction and political disagreement over priorities, with officials stating no construction work orders will be issued until funding clarity emerges. This is more advanced than a purely speculative proposal (it has a cabinet-approved alignment and, for one of the two corridors, a fully named station list), but it is NOT under construction and has no operational or confirmed opening timeline.
